Nine wanted individuals are handed over to authorities by Bahrain, while 17 locals are reclaimed, as part of an international law enforcement initiative.
On the International Day of Police Cooperation, September 7, Lieutenant-General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, made a significant announcement. Sheikh Rashid emphasized the need for deeper intelligence-sharing and greater reliance on advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, to combat organized crime.
The Minister of Interior called for the use of AI and advanced technology in crime-fighting. He pledged that the Interior Ministry will continue to play an active role in international peace and security. Bahrain is committed to advancing a global framework for police cooperation and supporting Interpol's mission to enhance security and stability worldwide.
In line with this commitment, Bahrain carried out 18 joint operations with seven nations. The country also exchanged 96 intelligence files on money laundering and terrorism financing with unspecified nations. Furthermore, Bahrain shared 97 pieces of drug-related intelligence with 12 countries.
The announcement came as Bahrain reaffirmed its support for Interpol's global security mission. Notably, Nehal Modi, brother of fugitive Nirav Modi, was arrested in the US on an extradition request from India. While details about the extradition of another fugitive Indian are not available, Bahrain's Interior Ministry announced the extradition of nine internationally wanted fugitives.
In addition, Bahrain recovered 17 nationals who had fled justice abroad. These actions underscore Bahrain's dedication to upholding international law and ensuring justice is served.
The Minister's call for the use of advanced technology in crime-fighting is a testament to Bahrain's forward-thinking approach to maintaining peace and security. As the world continues to grapple with complex and evolving threats, Bahrain stands ready to collaborate with its international partners to ensure a safer and more secure future for all.
