Nick Mayhugh Defies Cerebral Palsy to Champion Paralympic Athletes
Nick Mayhugh has become a leading voice for Paralympic athletes, both on and off the field. The American long jumper, diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a teenager, now works with major sports brands to push for greater inclusivity. His efforts extend beyond competition, as he uses social media to share his journey and advocate for adaptive sportswear.
Mayhugh was diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy at 14, caused by a dead spot on the right side of his brain. The condition affects the left side of his body, yet he has gone on to compete at the highest level. At the 2025 World Para Championships, he set a personal best of 6.40m in the long jump—despite competing with a broken foot. The injury ultimately kept him from winning a medal.
Mayhugh’s advocacy has already led to partnerships with some of the biggest names in sportswear. His push for adaptive product lines and awareness campaigns continues to gain momentum. Meanwhile, his social media presence keeps the conversation going, ensuring Paralympic athletes remain in the spotlight.
