Next week's gathering of e-mobility trailblazers to delve into future prospects
Gothenburg, Sweden, is gearing up to host the 38th International Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS38) from 15 to 18 June. This premier event for academic, government, and industry professionals involved in electric drive technologies is recognised as a global platform for networking and the exchange of technical information.
The city has established itself as one of Europe's most dynamic electromobility clusters, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and collaboration. Progressive brands like Volvo Cars, the Volvo Group, Polestar, Einride, Heart Aerospace, Stena Line, CEVT, and NovoEnergy are headquartered or carrying out research and development in Gothenburg.
The region holds the entire value chain in E-Mobility, including innovative companies, academic and research institutions, unique test environments, and demonstration projects. This fast-growing battery ecosystem will feature two battery gigafactories in the coming years, further cementing Gothenburg's position as a hub for electromobility.
Patrik Andersson, CEO of Business Region Gothenburg, states that significant investments are taking place across most modes of transport in the city. "Gothenburg has a strong focus on reducing emissions and adopting clean transport solutions," he says, adding that 99% of public transport in the county runs on renewable energy.
The city's transport system will be entirely fossil free by 2030, making it an ideal location for the EVS38. Chris Heron, Secretary General of E-Mobility Europe, expects a "fantastic line-up" at the event.
The topics to be addressed at EVS38 include electric cars and trucks, investment and geopolitics, innovations in charging, grid flexibility, batteries and the supply chain, autonomous driving, and more. Cooperation between policymakers and industry, fruitful dialogue, and financial backing are essential for supporting the global transformation of transport.
The event is organised by E-Mobility Europe and hosted by Business Region Göteborg. It will be held at Svenska Mässan in Gothenburg, Sweden. Around 300 exhibitors are expected, and visitors are from 70 countries.
Notable partners for EVS38 include companies like Volvo Cars, Volvo Group, CharIN, AUTEL, Daimler Truck, Nissan, Polestar, RISE, Siemens, Driivz, Iveco Group, Solidstudio, Vestel, and We Drive Solar, among others. CharIN, an organisation that declared itself a partner for EVS38 and confirmed its presence there, showcased megawatt charging advancements and celebrated its 10-year anniversary at EVS38.
Gothenburg has been selected as one of the EU's 100 climate-neutral cities in 2030 and named the world's most sustainable destination seven times. With more than 11,000 visitors expected at EVS38, from various sectors including stakeholders, industry representatives, policymakers, associations, academics, researchers, and EV users, it's clear that the city's commitment to sustainability and electromobility is resonating globally.
