New Sorting Hub Unveiled in Ekaterinburg by SDEK
In the heart of Yekaterinburg, two major players in the e-commerce logistics scene have expanded their operations. Wildberries and SDEK, both renowned for their online retail services, have recently opened new distribution centers in the city.
Starting with Wildberries, the online fashion retailer has opened a second distribution center, increasing its logistics facility's area by a substantial 62,000 sq.m. This brings the total area of the Wildberries warehouse complex on Prospektivnaya to 230,000 sq.m. The current size of the complex houses a capacity of 120 million units of goods. The new center, spanning 9,700 sq.m, is more than twice the size of the old facility, which was 4,000 sq.m.
The expansion was necessitated by the insufficient space in the old facility. The new center, equipped with a racking storage system, will significantly increase the number of storage locations. The operational zone of the expanded Wildberries warehouse complex will be equipped with modern sorting equipment. Notably, the new center replaces the old one.
The investment in the first and second phases of the Wildberries warehouse complex is estimated at 12 billion rubles. The racking storage system in the new center is available for subletting or for developing fulfillment services.
Meanwhile, logistics operator SDEK has opened a new sorting center in Yekaterinburg. The new facility, located in a convenient transportation zone with access roads for both long-distance and local transport, spans 7,500 sq.m for warehouse operations and 2,160 sq.m for offices. The new center will enable SDEK to handle peak season growth more effectively.
X5 Retail Group, the owner of the Pyaterochka and Perekrestok chains, also joined the expansion wave in Yekaterinburg. In July, they opened a second distribution center in the city, increasing the total area of the distribution center to 64,000 square meters after the completion of the second phase. The new center will undoubtedly contribute to smoother operations and improved delivery times for these retail giants.
These expansions underscore the growing importance of Yekaterinburg as a logistics hub and the commitment of these companies to providing efficient and reliable services to their customers.
