New Railway Operator Takes Charge in North-West Brandenburg

The Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) has launched a competition to find a railway operator for the Nordwestbrandenburg network, with the aim to improve services and increase frequency on existing routes. The competition, currently ongoing, includes the RE6, RB55, and RB73 lines, as well as the integration of the RB73 line from Kyritz to Neustadt (Dosse) from 2028.

At present, the Nordwestbrandenburg network consists of the RE6 and RB55 lines, running between Wittenberge and Berlin, and Neuruppin and Hennigsdorf respectively. The objective is to boost the number of services and improve the frequency on these routes, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the Wittenberge - Neuruppin - Hennigsdorf - Berlin axis.

The VBB is seeking a railway operator capable of managing the expanded network effectively. The chosen operator will be responsible for running more trains with increased frequency, integrating the RB73 line (Kyritz – Neustadt (Dosse)) into the network, and aiming for enhanced connectivity and service density from 2028 onward.

The competition process will involve evaluating potential operators based on their proposed strategies for improving the network. The VBB is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for passengers as the network expands and improves.

While the chosen railway operator for the Nordwestbrandenburg network starting in 2028 has not been explicitly named yet, the VBB has initiated a tender to select an operator for the specified lines. The competition aims to further improve the Wittenberge - Neuruppin - Hennigsdorf - Berlin axis, with the goal of providing better services and a more efficient network to the passengers of Berlin and Brandenburg.

The competition is scheduled to conclude by the start of 2028, marking a significant step forward in the development of the Nordwestbrandenburg network. The VBB is working towards enhancing the overall efficiency and passenger experience of the network, with the aim of providing a reliable and convenient transportation option for all.
