New on Disney+ this week: The live-action remake of the popular animated film, "Lilo & Stitch"
The long-awaited live-action remake of the beloved animated film, Lilo & Stitch, is finally here! Disney+ has announced that the film will be available for streaming starting this Wednesday, Sept. 3.
Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the live-action version of Lilo & Stitch has had a successful run in theatres, securing a No. 1 debut in its opening weekend. The film, which cost $100 million to produce before marketing costs, has currently grossed an impressive $1.032 billion globally, making it the highest-grossing film of 2025.
In the film, we follow an orphaned Hawaiian girl, Lilo (played by Maia Kealoha in her film debut), and her teenage sister, Nani (Sydney Agudong). The duo's life takes an unexpected turn when they adopt a furry, blue creature named Stitch from the animal pound. However, Stitch is not just an ordinary pet; he's an alien experiment gone awry.
Stitch, voiced by Chris Sanders who also voiced the character in the animated version, causes havoc and threatens to be separated from Lilo and Nani as aliens and human authorities seek to locate him.
Fleischer Camp was thrilled with his cast, particularly Maia Kealoha, whom he found to be an incredible find for the role of Lilo. Interestingly, it was Kealoha herself who was eager for the auditions, not her parents.
The film also stars Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Courtney B. Vance, Amy Hill, Kaipo Dudoit, and Hannah Waddingham.
For those who haven't had the chance to catch Lilo & Stitch in theatres, or for those who just can't get enough of the film, Disney+ offers two subscription options: The Basic plan, which contains advertising, is $9.99 per month, and the Premium plan, which is ad-free, is $15.99 per month or $159.99 per year.
