New model release: Audi Q3 Sportback unveiled with a refined design and hybrid engine technology
Audi Unveils the Q3 Sportback: A Coupé-Styled Compact SUV
Audi has added a new member to its SUV family with the introduction of the Q3 Sportback. This coupe-styled version of the popular compact SUV is set to arrive later this year, joining the standard Q3 in showrooms.
The Q3 Sportback boasts a more sloping roof, thanks to a revised roofline that sits 28mm lower than the standard Q3. Slimmer side glass, a new rear window, and a more aggressive stance complete the Sportback's sleeker silhouette. The vehicle showcases Audi's latest design language, featuring a broad grille, sculpted headlights, and large alloy wheels.
Under the hood, the Q3 Sportback offers a variety of engine options. The 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol, two 2.0-litre turbo petrols, and a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engines are available, catering to different driving preferences. For those seeking a more eco-friendly option, a plug-in hybrid Q3 Sportback is also on offer. This model features a 1.5-litre petrol engine, an electric motor, and a 25.7kWh battery, capable of producing 200 kW and offering up to 73 miles of pure-electric driving. Notably, the plug-in hybrid Q3 Sportback supports 50kW DC charging.
The interior of the Q3 Sportback mirrors the new Q3's layout, featuring a curved display that houses an 11.9-inch digital driver's cluster and a 12.8-inch central touchscreen. The dashboard integrates air vents and shortcut buttons for a clean and modern look. Advanced Digital LED headlights and OLED tail-lights can be optioned for the Q3 Sportback, adding a touch of luxury.
The Q3 Sportback's suspension has been slightly revised to suit its lower stance, and adaptive dampers are available as an option for greater ride flexibility. Quattro all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox come standard with the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engines.
In terms of practicality, the Q3 Sportback offers 488 litres of boot capacity, expandable to 1289 litres when the rear seats are folded. However, plug-in hybrid versions of the Q3 Sportback do not have an underfloor compartment typically used for storing charging cables. Instead, Audi recommends using a home charging solution or a public charging station.
The Q3 Sportback's new steering column-mounted gear selector frees up space in the center console, which now includes additional storage and a wireless charging pad. The price of the Q3 Sportback is expected to start from roughly £38,300 (A$74,700), with a modest price premium of around $2,925 over the regular Q3.
The development of the Q3 Sportback was overseen by Audi's technical development board member Geoffrey Bouquet and was highlighted by Audi CEO Gernot Döllner as part of Audi's product offensive, focusing on integrating advanced technology and sportier design for this key model in their portfolio. With its striking design, diverse engine options, and advanced features, the Q3 Sportback is set to make a strong impact in the compact SUV market.
