Analysts suggest economic worries, immigration policies, and shifts among Hispanic and working-class voters in cities like Newark and Jersey City may have played a role.
The latest debate between Sherrill and Ciattarelli grew more hostile than their first meeting. Sherrill labelled Ciattarelli '100% MAGA,' claiming he had never opposed Trump's policies. Ciattarelli fired back by grading Trump an A for his tax cuts and border controls, while Sherrill gave the former president an F. Personal attacks dominated much of the discussion. Sherrill criticised Ciattarelli over a past NJ.com report linking his former medical publishing company to grants for materials downplaying opioid risks. Ciattarelli, in turn, demanded Sherrill release more records from her time at the Naval Academy, questioning her transparency. Sherrill defended her service and blamed his campaign for leaking her unredacted files. On policy, the two clashed over affordability. Both acknowledged soaring electricity bills but proposed different solutions.
