Nevada rejects lenient deal for casino agent tied to illegal gambling ring
The Nevada Gaming Commission has rejected a proposed settlement with Nicole Bowyer, an agent at Resorts World Las Vegas. The decision follows concerns over her earnings and the lack of penalties in the agreement. Bowyer, the wife of a convicted illegal bookmaker, faced scrutiny for her role in the case.
Nicole Bowyer earned over £400,000 in 2023 as a gaming agent. Her husband, Matthew Bowyer, pleaded guilty to running an illegal gambling operation, laundering money, and filing a false tax return. Authorities believe she used her position to assist his activities.
The settlement proposal would have revoked her licence for five years but included no fine. Commissioner Brian Krolicki questioned why no financial penalty was imposed. Nona Lawrence, Nevada's deputy attorney general, argued that revocation alone was enough punishment. Commissioner George Markantonis dismissed claims that Bowyer was unaware of money laundering reporting rules. He stated that ignorance did not excuse her actions. The commission ultimately rejected the deal, citing her past earnings and the potential immunity it offered.
The rejection means Nicole Bowyer's case remains unresolved. The commission's decision highlights stricter enforcement against those linked to illegal gambling. Further action against her licence or potential fines may still follow.
