Navigate through browser systems operated by a distant control mechanism.
The Remote-Controlled Browsers System (ReCoBS) is a revolutionary solution that aims to provide high-security browsing while maintaining usability. This system moves the local browser to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and acts as an internet frontend, offering a user interface similar to the familiar Firefox browser known as TightGate-Pro.
TightGate-Pro, certified by BSI at EAL3+, ensures secure surfing and uploads and downloads. Users can surf as usual, but the control of the web browser is on a dedicated ReCoBS server, which can withstand heavy cyber attacks, serving as a "shock absorber" in the digital world.
The protection concept of ReCoBS ensures that sensitive and/or personal data do not leave the organization. It monitors and controls the execution of active content such as ActiveX controls, Flash, JavaScript, and Java applets, protecting users by restricting potentially harmful or unauthorized actions. This prevents security risks like malware infections and unauthorized data access.
Users should be aware that with the loading of a video, they accept the data protection declaration of the platform, such as YouTube. Optionally, the ReCoBS server can include file disinfection for added security.
Trusted sites or web applications can be excluded from running through the Remote-Controlled Browsers System via a whitelist, ensuring a smooth user experience for trusted sites. The system also allows for the addition of an extra anti-virus engine for enhanced protection.
According to the BSI, security is "non-existent" with the use of active contents on websites. However, modern websites rely on these active contents for a positive user experience and are cost-effective to implement. ReCoBS strikes a balance between security and usability, making the internet a safer place for all.
