The racing scene is buzzing with anticipation as the NASCAR Cup Series prepares for the debut of the Indianapolis road race, the Verizon 200, taking place at the Brickyard on August 15th. The Indianapolis Road Circuit will play host to this exciting event, marking a significant milestone in the series' history.

Defending champion, Chase Elliott, is the clear favourite to clinch another victory, boasting an impressive driver rating of 124.6 on road courses over the past three seasons. Elliott has also averaged an impressive 6.1 finish on all road courses since 2018, including a remarkable seven victories.

However, Elliott is not the only contender for the top spot. Christopher Bell, who has been in stellar form on road courses this season, is also a strong contender. Bell, who won the Daytona road course earlier this season, has an average finish of 7.6 since 2018 and a driver rating of 115.4. Notably, Bell outperformed Martin Truex Jr. and the Hendrick Motorsports cars at the previous race, setting him up as a potential dark horse for the Verizon 200.

Truex Jr., who has had an average finish of 7.6 on road courses since 2018, has expressed his reservations about Indianapolis, stating it as his least favourite track. Despite this, Truex Jr. cannot be ruled out, especially considering his consistent top-10 finishes on road courses in recent years.

Kyle Larson, who finished first at the road race at Watkins Glen, and Elliott's closest competitor this year, will also be a force to reckon with. However, an incident with Bell at the previous race might affect Larson's performance.

Other notable participants include Denny Hamlin (+1200), Kyle Busch, Austin Cindric, A.J. Almendinger, William Byron, Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Alex Bowman, Ryan Blaney, Chase Briscoe, Ross Chastain, Tyler Reddick, Brad Keselowski, and Kurt Busch.

Practice for the Verizon 200 is scheduled for Saturday at 11:05 am ET, with qualifying taking place on Sunday at 9:00 am ET. Odds for the Verizon 200 at The Brickyard have been provided by DraftKings, with Elliott being the +200 favourite.

As the countdown to the race begins, fans are eagerly awaiting the thrilling competition that lies ahead. Will Elliott continue his dominance on road courses, or will another driver seize the opportunity to claim victory in this historic debut race? Only time will tell.
