Napoli Secures Last-Minute Victory Over Cagliari, Thanks to Anguissa's Strike, Solidifying Their Champion Status

In a thrilling 95th-minute finish, Frank Anguissa scored the winning goal for Napoli against Cagliari in a Serie A match. The goal, assisted by Alessandro Buongiorno's low cross, sealed a hard-fought victory for the Italian giants.

The game was a repeat of the final game of the 2024-25 season, where Napoli won the title. However, the first half saw Napoli struggling to find their rhythm, with Cagliari causing their own problems by trying to play out from the back.

Scott McTominay, who had a commanding performance, took the most shots (five) and recorded the most touches in the box (10) during the game. He also forced a strong save from Elia Caprile in the first half. Despite Napoli's dominance in the second half, they were largely frustrated, with Anguissa and Buongiorno both missing opportunities in the final 10 minutes of the game.

The turning point came when Michael Folorunsho had a good chance to score against the run of play but missed by skyrocketing his volley over the bar. This seemed to be the spark Napoli needed, as they pushed for a winner.

Napoli accumulated 1.7 expected goals (xG) from 20 shots, while Cagliari had 0.51 xG from 10 attempts. Kevin De Bruyne and Matteo Prati had efforts that went over the bar in the first half, but it was Anguissa who made the difference in the end.

This victory extends Napoli's unbeaten streak in Serie A to 14 games (nine wins, five draws), making them the team with the longest unbeaten streak in the big five European leagues. Napoli's last defeat in Serie A was against Como, which occurred in February.

With this win, Napoli continue their title defense attempt, maintaining their position at the top of the table. The team will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next match.
