Musical Rosh Hashanah Services at Brooklyn Bowl schedule for September 22nd and 23rd
In the heart of New York City, the organiser of The Friday Night Jam, is set to bring back the much-loved two-part event, "A Musical Celebration of Rosh Hashanah," to Brooklyn Bowl on September 22 and 23, 2025. This event marks a continuation of the venue's 14-year tradition of musically driven High Holiday services, which blend full traditionally rooted Rosh Hashanah services with explanations, prayer, shofar blowing, meditation, and live music.
The services will be led by Rabbi Daniel Brenner, a name that resonates in Jewish circles, having been recognised as one of America's most influential rabbis by Newsweek Magazine. Currently, Rabbi Brenner serves as the chief of education at Moving Traditions. Musical direction will be provided by Jeremiah Lockwood, a fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies.
The event will feature a piece written for two voices and chamber orchestra, conducted by Alan Pierson and performed by Riki Rose and Yoel Kohn. A new work by Jeremiah Lockwood, titled "Selichos/Transformation," will also be debuted during the services.
The lineup includes a host of talented musicians from the Jewish diaspora. Antibalas' Jordan McLean, Antibalas' Timothy Allen, drummer John Bollinger, saxophonist Stuart Bogie, Yula Berri on vocals and bass, and internationally renowned teacher Jane Tuv are all set to perform.
Brooklyn Bowl, located in the Hecla Iron Works building, is renowned for its sound system and environmental sustainability. It's more than just a venue; it's a nightlife destination featuring music, bowling, a bar, and food by Blue Ribbon restaurant group. You can find more information about the venue on its website (
All proceeds from the event will support the non-profit organisation Shalom Y'all Jams. Additional guests for the Rosh Hashanah festivities will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
In October, The Friday Night Jam will hold Yom Kippur services at The Cutting Room on October 1st and 2nd.
Jeremiah Lockwood's first book, "Golden Ages: Hasidic Singers and Cantorial Revival in the Digital Era," is set to be published by University of California Press in February 2024.
