Musical Mixup: Jazz, Funk, and Deception Unveiled
Get ready for a musical extravaganza in Berlin this weekend! Here's a round-up of some not-to-be-missed events.
Firstly, the Berlin label Edelfaul Records is celebrating its sixth birthday on Thursday at Panke. The admission at the door is 10 Euro. The event will feature performances by EPRC, Càrpatos, Emme, Neinei9, and Schrodinger or Boom Boom God, who is releasing a tape at this event. Schrodinger's debut EP, "Tüüfelsbrugg", consists of five tracks and offers a wild ride between noise, electronics, and spoken words, creating a unique "fake industrial folklore band" sound.
On Sunday, Laura Lee & the Jettes are releasing their second album "Tough Love Paradigm" at LARK. Two release concerts are scheduled at LARK on Sunday, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. The afternoon session is family-friendly, featuring Laura Lee & the Jettes' music described as a mix of Grunge, Indie-Pop, and Alt-Rock melancholy.
Meanwhile, over at Friedrichshain Galia Church, Rattle, a duo from Nottingham, and Sabina Leone alias Héloïse will perform. Sabina's music incorporates percussive structures and fragments from various sources.
In a different genre, Sera Kalo, a Caribbean-American singer, will perform at the fourth Mini-Festival of Pop in the North Neighbourhood on Saturday. Sera Kalo received the German Jazz Award this year in the vocal category. The festival, which starts on Thursday, will also feature the opening act Trawy i Kamienie.
For those interested in Ethio-Jazz, Mulatu Astatke, a pioneer in the genre, is going on a farewell tour. He will perform at Huxley's on September 9th at 8:30 PM. Unfortunately, the search results do not provide information about the artists performing before Mulatu Astatke at Friedrichshain Galia Church on the same day.
Lastly, fastmusic and the Sufi Dub Brothers are having a label night at Fun In The Church. The Sufi Dub Brothers are presenting their new release "The Return of The Sufi Dub Brothers" at the Gretchen. The duo, consisting of Viktor Marek and Ashraf Sharif Khan, creates music by fusing Western jazz and funk influences with traditional sounds from their homeland.
Whether you're a fan of Grunge, Jazz, or Ethio-Jazz, there's something for everyone in Berlin's music scene this weekend!
