In the picturesque landscapes of Bavaria, a series of events unfolded last week, ranging from mushroom hikes to festivals and weddings.

On Saturday morning, 23 mushroom enthusiasts, including some children, embarked on a two-hour excursion in Wernersreuth, near Bad Neualbenreuth. Led by Werner, the group ventured out to discover a variety of wild mushrooms, with Stefan Hartwig, the mushroom expert of the German Society for Mycology (DGIM), guiding the hike. A total of 61 different mushrooms were found, with 32 of them being edible.

One of the first mushrooms found was a cow pat, also known as the large yellow foot, which is edible. However, caution is advised when consuming a rare find, such as the edible false morel, as it must be cooked for about 90 minutes before eating and care should be taken to avoid deadly look-alikes.

Meanwhile, in Amberg, a group of children went for an early morning stroll to a fast-food joint at 5 AM. The police intervened and notified child protective services, as the outing was considered unusual. Fortunately, no incidents were reported.

Elsewhere, nature enthusiasts can discover a variety of wild animals and great plant diversity in the holiday program of the Open-Air Museum Oberpfalz in Neusath.

The week was also marked by celebrations, with Lisa Gebert, Plossberg's carnival president, getting married to Philipp Hofmann in the church in Beidl. The festivities continued with the 75th Eixlberg Festival in Pfreimd, marked by radiant late summer weather, a festive atmosphere, and an impressive turnout.

Over 4,000 people visited the Food Mile in Waldershof, where they were treated to a rich culinary offer and enjoyed Irish music in the evening. The Schnapsexpress of the fire brigade was present, adding to the festive spirit.

However, tragedy struck in North Rhine-Westphalia, where an electric car crashed into a tree, caught fire, and resulted in the death of three occupants, including two children. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of road safety.

As the week draws to a close, Bavaria's residents and visitors alike can look back on a week filled with nature, celebration, and a sombre reminder of the importance of safety.
