Museum Tang Provides Complimentary Public Guided Visits This Autumn
The Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College, a pioneer in interdisciplinary exploration and learning, is gearing up for an exciting fall season. Located in Saratoga Springs, New York, this highly selective, private liberal arts college is home to more than 40 bachelor's degree programmes, fostering academic and personal excellence with a belief that Creative Thought Matters.
The museum's award-winning building, designed by architect Antoine Predock, serves as a visual metaphor for the convergence of art and ideas. The Tang's Curator's Tours, held monthly, offer visitors unique perspectives on specific exhibitions, connecting them with new ideas and ways of understanding the human experience.
One such tour is scheduled for Thursday, December 11, at Noon, for the exhibition "Sheila Pepe: Where and When We Rest." Rachel Seligman, Assistant Director for Curatorial Affairs and Malloy Curator, will lead this tour. Pepe's work is set to open on October 11 as the sixth iteration in the mezzanine installation project.
Another not-to-be-missed exhibition is "Up to Us: Black Dimensions in Art, 1975-Tomorrow," which celebrates the 50th anniversary of a grassroots organization. Rebecca McNamara, the Frances Young Tang ’61 Associate Curator, will lead tours for this exhibition and "All These Growing Things," an ongoing exhibition exploring becoming and belonging. "Up to Us" continues through November 2.
The fall season will also feature exhibitions such as "See It Now: Contemporary Art from the Ann and Mel Schaffer Collection," opening on September 13. Ian Berry, Dayton Director, will lead the Curators' Tour for this exhibition on Thursday, November 13, at Noon.
Visitors to "Up to Us" can also receive a certificate for free admission to the Albany Institute of History & Art.
The Tang Teaching Museum is open to the public Tuesday-Sunday, noon-5 pm, with extended hours until 9 pm Thursday.
