Münster 2025 Municipal Elections: Franck Pohlmann Takes the Lead
Franz Pohlmann and Michael Buhrke are two of the candidates vying for the mayoral position in Münster's upcoming municipal election on August 30, 2025.
Pohlmann, a retired agricultural engineer, has been politically active for 20 years and is running for office with the Ecological Democratic Party (ÖDP). His goals for the mayoral position include fighting against land sealing, promoting a transportation turnaround, and fostering social cohesion.
Pohlmann previously ran a Bioland berry-fruit farm before retiring and being persuaded by party colleagues to run for office.
On the other hand, Michael Buhrke, an editor and photographer at ALLES MÜNSTER, was born in the Lower Saxon town of Celle and moved to Münster in 1990 to study. His focus areas include environment, health, social issues, natural sciences, and he is passionate about cycling, hiking, and amateur photography.
Buhrke, who has been politically active for several years, is also running for office in the 2025 municipal election. The election features several candidates, including Dr. Katja Martinewski from Die Linke and Roland Scholle from Die Partei.
Pohlmann and Buhrke join a diverse field of candidates aiming to lead Münster. The most important quality for the position of mayor, according to Pohlmann, is common sense.
Voters in Münster will have the opportunity to cast their ballots on August 30, 2025, and decide who will lead their city for the next term.
