Municipality of Cuneo received an invitation from the ACLI, proposing a Peace Advisor for their jurisdiction.
In a significant move, the Department of the Third Sector with delegations for Peace in Cuneo, Italy, has become one of the first municipalities in the country to establish such an initiative. Elio Lingua, provincial president of Cuneo's ACLI, is spearheading this effort.
Lingua believes that peace is not just a utopia, but a collective responsibility. He emphasizes the transformation of good intentions into concrete acts, urging all citizens to engage in efforts for peace, starting from institutions at every level.
The initiative is not a solo endeavour. It is being shared with Fondazione Fratelli Tutti, Azione Cattolica, the ComunitΓ Papa Giovanni XXIII, and a wide network of associations. The aim is to reflect on the importance of peace from a young age, with a focus on sensitizing citizens, particularly through interventions in schools.
Lingua's initiatives also include participation in the Jubilee of Hope in Ukraine, scheduled from October 1 to 5. Closer to home, he mentioned a project related to the reintegration of detained persons into the workforce, scheduled for November 18.
Moreover, Lingua stresses the need for individual and local commitment to remove the image of good intentions without concrete results. He believes that the urgency of reflecting on the origin and spread of violence, not just wars, is crucial in this initiative.
The operational role of the Department of Peace, if created, would include both symbolic and practical aspects. It would serve as a reminder of the importance of peace, while also actively working towards promoting peaceful coexistence.
Lingua's most recent initiative is the Peace March from Perugia to Assisi, scheduled for October 12. The request for the creation of the Department of Peace has been made to the President of the Region Alberto Cirio, the President of the Province Luca Robaldo, and all the mayors of the Granda.
The project to create an authority for peace in Cuneo also involves the regional administration of Piedmont, the city of Cuneo, and several local associations, alongside ACLI. The establishment of the Department of Peace in Cuneo marks a significant step towards promoting peace and fostering a culture of coexistence in the region.
