Multi-vehicle collision on a Polish highway, as reported by local authorities
On August 16, 2025, an articulated bus was involved in a traffic accident on the A24 in the direction of Hamburg between the Grande and Witzhave junctions. The incident caused partial closure of the motorway in both directions for investigation and recovery operations.
The bus veered off the road to the left and collided with the central reservation barrier. As a result, the bus broke through the barrier and came to rest across the carriageway. The 34-year-old Spanish bus driver and 12 passengers aged between 6 and 85 were on board at the time of the accident.
Fortunately, only five passengers sustained minor injuries. The bus driver was seriously injured but not in critical condition. The bus driver's identity has not been disclosed.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, and no new information has been provided about the type of traffic accident investigation taking place. The bus has been secured on order of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Lübeck.
The full closure was lifted at around 1:30 PM, but until the central reservation barrier is repaired, traffic disruptions are likely on the left lanes (towards Berlin and Hamburg). The estimated material damage is 10,000 euros.
