Multi-family dwelling experiences partial roof collapse; no casualties reported, buildings declared unfit for habitation.

In Düsseldorf, on August 29, 2025, at 3:10 PM, the fire department was dispatched to Kronprinzenstraße in Unterbilk due to a reported ceiling collapse in a multi-family home. The incident was confirmed by the Düsseldorf Fire Department, as reported by news aktuell.

Upon arrival, fire crews found that a partial ceiling collapse had occurred in one of the apartments, with extensive water damage identified as the cause. For safety reasons, the building was disconnected from the water, gas, and electricity supplies.

The building inspection authority was called in to investigate the cause of the water damage. Preliminary findings indicate moisture penetration in the masonry on two floors of the building, with a partial ceiling collapse found in the bathroom of one apartment.

No further injuries were reported during the incident, and the last fire crews returned to their stations after approximately three hours. However, the residential building remains uninhabitable due to the ceiling collapse and subsequent investigations.

The state capital has organised temporary accommodation for the twelve affected residents, who are currently being housed in a facility provided by the city.

The building inspection authority has prohibited the use of the building, and an investigation into the cause of the water damage is ongoing. The extent of the water damage and moisture penetration in the masonry remains unchanged, as reported earlier.
