MP under scrutiny for allegedly aiding racial slur directed towards a journalist from our news site
Conservative MP Calls for Investigation into Alleged Racial Abuse by James McMurdock
In a shocking turn of events, Conservative MP Ben Obese-Jecty has written a letter to the parliamentary commissioner for standards, calling for an investigation into MP James McMurdock's alleged use of social media to facilitate racial abuse.
The controversy stems from a series of posts made by McMurdock, who is currently a member of the Democratic Party, under a critical post about Mhari Aurora. According to Obese-Jecty, McMurdock posted the single letter "N", which is widely understood to be a racial slur, the n-word, in subsequent posts under his own, over roughly 30 minutes.
Obese-Jecty was horrified that a fellow MP would apparently use this as a means to challenge a Westminster lobby journalist. He believes McMurdock's actions breach the Commons code and reflect a lack of adherence to the seven principles of public life.
In response, McMurdock appeared to deny he made the post, sharing a screenshot of X's AI assistant Grok claiming he never posted the letter N. However, Obese-Jecty states that McMurdock's deletion of the post without challenge shows a failure to challenge poor behavior and absence of moral courage.
Obese-Jecty encourages McMurdock to condemn this type of abuse in the strongest possible terms and calls on the commissioner to ask McMurdock to clarify his intentions with the original post. He also requests McMurdock to share his archive of social media posts.
McMurdock, who was previously a Reform UK MP but suspended himself from Nigel Farage's party after allegations emerged over COVID loans he claimed, later posted a letter on social media stating there should be no place in Parliament for those who use their position to target and attempt to intimidate a free press.
This incident comes at a time when the Home Office has won an appeal in court regarding an asylum hotel, which is said to avoid chaos. The case is not directly related to the investigation into MP James McMurdock, but is included for context as it is part of the same news article.
It remains to be seen how the parliamentary commissioner for standards will respond to Obese-Jecty's call for an investigation. However, the incident has raised serious concerns about the behaviour of some MPs and the need for greater accountability in Parliament.
