Movie takings for War 2 on day 10: Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's production records a minor enhancement, bagging ₹214 crore
War 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2019 action thriller, has hit the screens with a star-studded cast and high expectations. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film features Hrithik Roshan reprising his role as Major Kabir Dhaliwal, with Jr NTR making his Bollywood debut as the antagonist.
The film follows the story of Colonel Luthra's daughter Kavya, played by Kiara Advani, who is torn between heartbreak and a thirst for revenge. Kavya finds herself in a precarious position as a secretive group of global leaders called Kali plots to assassinate India's Prime Minister. In an unusual twist, Kabir, who appears to have crossed over to the dark side, is the one sent to stop the plot. R&AW sends Vikram (NTR) to bring him back.
Despite the promising plot and star-studded cast, War 2 has faced criticism for its VFX even before its release. Viewers have also criticised the film for its weak writing, poor VFX, and underwhelming storyline upon its release.
The film's box office performance has been a rollercoaster ride. On its first day, War 2 recorded a strong collection of ₹53.35 crore. However, it saw a steep decline in numbers on its first Monday, collecting only ₹8.75 crore after a strong ₹32.65 crore on Sunday. The film's collection has not crossed double digits since its first Monday. On its second Saturday, the film showed a slight improvement, collecting ₹6.48 crore. As of Day 10, War 2's total box office collection stands at ₹214.73 crore.
Despite the declining box office numbers, War 2 is in its final stretch. The film is the sixth instalment in YRF's Spy Universe, which began with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif's Ek Tha Tiger. However, the film's box office performance has been a far cry from its predecessors.
The film was written by Shridhar Raghavan and Abbas Tyrewala, from a story by Aditya Chopra. However, the film's box office performance has been a source of disappointment for the production team. Rajvir Ashir, assistant director on the original War and Pathaan, publicly criticised the film on Instagram.
In conclusion, War 2, with its star-studded cast and promising plot, had high expectations. However, the film has faced criticism for its VFX and storyline, and its box office performance has been underwhelming. Despite this, the film is in its final stretch at the box office.
