Mourão plans to set up the sixth ultra-fast charging station for electric vehicles
A small town in Portugal, Mourão, located just 15km from the Spanish border, has received a significant boost in its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. The town is now home to the sixth installation of an ultra-rapid EV charging station, courtesy of InstaVolt, a leading provider in the EV charging sector.
The installation of the new charging station in Mourão is part of InstaVolt's strategic expansion across Europe. Richard Lowden, the founder and CEO of InstaVolt, expressed pride in the company's growth, particularly in the growing EV markets of Portugal and Spain. Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt, echoed these sentiments, stating that both countries are experiencing increased electric vehicle uptake.
The new site in Mourão features two 160kW ultra-rapid chargers, offering drivers a dependable and convenient charging option. This expansion comes at a time when EV adoption throughout the Iberian Peninsula is on the rise. In the first half of 2025, EV sales in Spain increased by 134.9%, while battery EV registrations in Portugal were up 40.97% year on year in January 2025.
InstaVolt has also introduced a new anti-cable cutting theft technology, aiming to further enhance the security of its charging stations. However, further details about this technology were not provided in this announcement.
The fourth annual CiTTi Awards, an unmissable event for the UK's transportation sector, will take place on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. The CiTTi Awards will recognise and celebrate achievements and innovations in EV charging infrastructure, and InstaVolt's expansion in Portugal and Spain is likely to be among the honourees.
