Motorway Police Report - Unusual Findings from Routine Traffic Check in Moers-Kapellen Area
In an unexpected turn of events, a 22-year-old Audi driver from Duisburg found himself in hot water following a routine traffic stop on the A 57 near Moers-Kapellen exit, Düsseldorf, on the night of August 28, 2025.
The incident occurred at around 2:00 AM, when the officers, conducting a routine check, noticed that the license plates on the Audi were unsealed and were meant for a Seat. This discrepancy raised suspicions, leading the officers to further investigate the vehicle's ownership.
Upon questioning, the driver admitted to not having a valid driver's license and could not produce identification. He claimed to have borrowed the Audi from a friend, but only knew his first name. The officers were surprised to find that the driver did not own the vehicle.
Further inquiries revealed that the owner of the Audi vehicle is a friend of the 22-year-old driver from Duisburg. This friend confirmed that the Audi was his, but he had never seen the false plates on his car. He also admitted that he could not provide proof of ownership since he had received the car in a swap.
As a result of the investigation, the officers impounded the Audi to determine ownership. The acquaintance arrived on the scene and stated that the Audi was his, but he had never seen the false plates on his car. However, he could not provide a sales contract to prove his ownership of the vehicle.
Several criminal charges were filed in the case. The officers, in their report, noted that the driver was not legally in possession of the vehicle. The acquaintance, too, could not prove ownership of the Audi.
Further inquiries can be directed to the Düsseldorf Police Press Office. This incident serves as a reminder to always ensure that vehicles are driven with valid documents and that ownership of the vehicle is properly established.
