Motorway 66 Accident Leaves Driver Injured with Extensive Vehicle Damage; Bridge Rail Repairs Ongoing

In a shocking incident on the A66, a 59-year-old man from the Aschaffenburg area was involved in a severe accident near the junction between Steinau and Schlüchtern-Süd.

The incident occurred around 1.40 pm, and the man was travelling towards Fulda in a Porsche 911 Carrera when he lost control of the vehicle. The Porsche collided with the right-hand reservation and a bridge barrier at the height of the L3179 road crossing.

Initial investigations suggest that a tire on the vehicle may have burst, leading to the accident. The impact was so severe that the bridge barrier was torn from its moorings and fell onto the L3179 road below in parts. As a result, the motorway was partially closed, and the L3179 road was completely closed during the cleanup operation.

The man sustained serious injuries in the accident. Traffic on the motorway was rerouted onto the left-hand lane, causing a long tailback. Repairs to the central reservation and bridge barrier are ongoing, with the repairs expected to be completed by the evening.

The police are investigating the incident and are not yet releasing the names of the specific officers handling the inquiry. Generally, such inquiries are handled by the police officers at the Polizeiautobahnstation Südosthessen, which is part of the Polizeidirektion Südost-Hessen.
