The Republic of Moldova has made significant strides in gender equality, securing the 7th position in the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Index 2025. This impressive achievement places Moldova alongside the United Kingdom as a new entrant in the top 10.

Maia Sandu, who led the government of Moldova in 2025, presided over this remarkable improvement. Her pro-European party, PAS, has held the parliamentary majority since 2021.

One of Moldova's most significant improvements since the last edition is in the area of Political Empowerment. Since the index was first published in 2006, Moldova has more than tripled its score in this category, reaching a parity score of 42.5%. This progress is evidenced by the fact that women hold 40% of ministerial positions in the country as of January 2025, and 40% of seats in the Parliament since the 2021 elections, making Moldova a regional leader in political gender equality.

The Invest Moldova Agency, which promotes the country as a modern, open, and equitable destination for innovation and sustainable growth, views this progress as a powerful message to international investors and partners. They encourage partners to explore the opportunities Moldova offers, where ambition, resilience, and equality drive the country forward.

The agency considers gender equality as a competitive advantage for Moldova's economy. By expanding employment services, renovating nurseries and kindergartens, supporting women-led businesses, improving access to childcare leave, strengthening violence prevention efforts, and increasing the number of women in law enforcement, Moldova is making a concerted effort to create a more inclusive society with equal opportunities across education, the workforce, health, and governance.

The country's efforts to promote gender equality have not gone unnoticed. Alexei Buzu, the Minister of Labour and Social Protection, commended the country's progress in ensuring gender equality. The Global Gender Gap Report 2025, which is available on the World Economic Forum's website, reflects Moldova's long-term commitment to this cause.

In conclusion, Moldova's impressive progress in gender equality not only positions the country as a regional leader but also as a global example of a society committed to building a more equitable future. The Invest Moldova Agency invites partners to join in this endeavour, as gender equality is not only a social priority but a crucial factor for Moldova's economic growth.
