Modi's Knesset Speech Unveils India-Israel Tech and Trade Revolution
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has outlined a bold vision for deeper ties between India and Israel during a landmark address to the Knesset. His speech highlighted a forward-looking partnership spanning technology, trade, and security. The two nations are now accelerating collaboration in key sectors like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and semiconductors.
This push comes as India strengthens its role in global innovation, recently hosting the world's largest AI Impact Summit. Meanwhile, long-standing defence cooperation and new economic corridors are further cementing the relationship.
The partnership between India and Israel has expanded rapidly in recent years. A major milestone was the 2018 launch of iCreate Technology Business Incubators, a joint initiative that has since helped over 50 Indian startups secure investments or partnerships with Israeli firms. By 2025, programs like the India-Israel Innovation Bridge had already fostered deals in AI, agritech, and healthtech.
Trade and investment ties have also grown stronger. Last year's Bilateral Investment Treaty provided businesses on both sides with greater confidence, encouraging long-term capital flows. Negotiations are now underway for an ambitious Free Trade Agreement, aimed at unlocking untapped trade potential.
Beyond technology, Israel's expertise in agriculture is making an impact in India. Through 43 Centres of Excellence, Israeli techniques in precision irrigation and water management are training Indian farmers, with plans to expand to 100 centres. Defence remains a cornerstone of the relationship, reinforced by a Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation signed in November last year.
The economic and strategic bond is further supported by emerging multilateral platforms. The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and the I2U2 framework—linking India, Israel, the UAE, and the US—are creating new avenues for collaboration. Both nations share a belief that combining innovation with scale leads to transformative outcomes.
India and Israel are now focusing on three high-impact sectors: quantum technologies, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence. The partnership builds on decades of defence cooperation while expanding into trade, agriculture, and cutting-edge innovation. With new trade agreements and investment frameworks in development, the relationship is set to grow even stronger in the coming years.
