Modern Tale of Family Action and Adventure: Four Kids and a Journey

In the world of children's entertainment, a new adaptation of a beloved classic is set to captivate audiences. The production of "Four Kids and It" began approximately six years ago, with Anne Brogan and Julie Baines serving as producers.

Based on the book Four Children and It by Jacqueline Wilson, published in 2012, this film is an adaptation of Edith Nesbit's Edwardian children's classic, Five Children and It, published in 1902. The story follows a group of everyday kids who encounter an eccentric, ancient creature, the Psammead, who can grant their wishes.

Andy De Emmony, known for his work in children's animation, puppets, CG, comedy, and emotional drama, was drawn to the project and chosen to direct "Four Kids and It" due to his help in the project's early development. De Emmony connected emotionally with Wilson's contemporary retelling of Nesbit's Edwardian tale.

Jacqueline Wilson, the author of the adapted book, is a huge fan of E. Nesbit and tried to mirror some of the situations but not imitate Nesbit's voice. Wilson, who spent most of her childhood in Kingston-on Thames, hopes that the film will touch people and provide a great cinematic experience.

Simon Lewis, the screenwriter for "Four Kids and It", studied art but became a full-time novelist and screenwriter. He has written several screenplays, three of which went into production in 2014. His book Bad Traffic was nominated for the LA Times Book of the Year Award and the French SNCF prize for crime fiction.

The story of "Four Kids and It" is set in the context of a modern dysfunctional family, touching upon the theme of embracing new blended-families. The theme of "be careful what you wish for" is a timeless element in the story.

Julie Baines, one of the producers, has two wishes for the film. Her first wish is for it to resonate with audiences, making them laugh, cry, and possibly reach for tissues. Her second wish is for a sequel to be made.

In the film, the Psammead is voiced by the legendary Michael Caine. Anne Brogan, a children's film and television producer, praises Jacqueline Wilson's work for its strong understanding of children's perspectives and emotional depth.

With its blend of modern settings, timeless themes, and a star-studded cast, "Four Kids and It" promises to be a heartwarming and entertaining film for audiences of all ages.
