Mobile Network Leader Cell C Sets Milestone in South Africa with Unprecedented Reliability in Cellular Services

In a significant milestone for the telecommunications industry in South Africa, Cell C has emerged as the leader in Network Reliability, according to the independent global authority, Opensignal. This marks the first time in Cell C's history that it has secured the top spot in this crucial category.

The announcement was made in March 2024, as part of the Opensignal report on South Africa. Cell C managed to outshine its formidable competitors, including Vodacom, which has traditionally held a leading position in the market. The success can be attributed to Cell C's focus on providing stable connections and the strategic deployment of modern technologies such as 5G.

Cell C's network performance was assessed based on an independent user experience measurement and analysis. The operator's achievements extend beyond Network Reliability, as it was also jointly recognised as the leader in Voice App Experience. Furthermore, Cell C clinched South Africa's outright winner title for Video Experience and a joint winner title for Upload Speed Experience, alongside MTN, over the past year.

Jorge Mendes, Cell C's CEO, expressed his commitment to offering affordable connectivity to every South African. He stated that reliability and video are crucial elements shaping modern life, from streaming and gaming to online learning or running a small business. Cell C customers can now depend on the company in the moments that matter most.

Schalk Visser, Cell C's Chief Technology Officer, emphasised that reliability is the foundation of connectivity. He added that Cell C's network is powered by a pioneering national dual MOCN (Multi-Operator Core Network) model, enabling access to more than 28,000 towers nationwide.

The recognition confirms that Cell C customers receive reliable performance nationwide. Cell C's network supports real human needs, such as uninterrupted access to online learning for students, greater reliability in serving customers for small businesses, and staying connected for families.

Cell C's transformation is not just technical, but also customer-centric. The achievement of joint #1 in Reliability demonstrates that Cell C's strategy and execution are paying off, highlighting Cell C's genuine gains in user experience.

In addition to these accolades, Cell C's network calls on popular communication apps like WhatsApp, Teams, etc. are clearer and more consistent. The company is also making further investments in improvements in voice quality. Cell C continues to focus on affordability and value to ensure digital services are accessible to all South Africans.

In summary, Cell C has made significant strides in the South African telecommunications industry, securing multiple awards for Network Reliability, Voice App Experience, and Video Experience. The company's customer-centric approach and commitment to delivering reliable connectivity at affordable prices have positioned it as a leading player in the market.
