Indian Gems & Jewellery Show Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Hallmarking, Aims for Transformation

The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) hosted the India Gem & Jewellery Show (GJS) at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai from 4th to 7th April 2025. The event marked the 25th anniversary of hallmarking of gold in India and saw the attendance of Shri Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs, who applauded the efforts of jewellers in adopting hallmarking.

Shri Pralhad Joshi, in his address, highlighted the government's commitment to streamlining hallmarking regulations and announced that the BIS, in collaboration with GJC, is launching a National Hackathon. The hackathon aims to invite innovative and practical solutions for developing non-destructive testing for gold jewellery, with the goal of increasing the number of Assaying Hallmarking Centres (AHC) across India, with a target of reaching 500 districts this year.

Mr. Avinash Gupta, Vice Chairman of GJC, expressed gratitude for Shri Pralhad Joshi's presence at the GJS and appreciated his announcement of the hackathon with GJC and BIS. He also highlighted the transformation of the industry into a trusted and well-structured sector, thanks to the efforts of jewellers and the support of the government.

Mr. Saiyam Mehra, Convenor of GJS, welcomed Shri Pralhad Joshi to the GJS and reminded the collective responsibility to uphold the values of purity and trust. He emphasized the industry's transparency and legacy of trust in gold.

Mr. Rajesh Rokde, Chairman of GJC, expressed gratitude for Shri Pralhad Joshi's attendance at the GJS and looked forward to the government recognizing the industry with a fresh perspective. He reiterated the importance of maintaining the industry's reputation for integrity and quality.

The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) is a national trade council established to promote and progress the industry's growth. The India Gem & Jewellery Show (GJS) is organized by the GJC and provides a platform for jewellers to showcase their products, network, and learn about the latest trends and technologies in the industry.
