Military drills commence between Belarus and forces from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)
Belarus and Russia have announced plans to conduct joint strategic military exercises, titled "West-2025", from September 12 to 16, 2025. The exercises will take place in Belarus and involve approximately 13,000 soldiers from both nations.
The "West-2025" exercises will include three main components: "Interaction-2025", "Search-2025", and "Echelon-2025". "Search-2025" and "Interaction-2025" are part of the series, but "West-2025" is not. The specific nature and purpose of these exercises have not been disclosed.
In addition to the "West-2025" exercises, the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) have already commenced their own exercises on August 31, 2025. The CSTO exercises also include "Interaction-2025", "Search-2025", and "Echelon-2025".
The "West-2025" exercises will also incorporate "Oreshnik" operations, although the details of these operations are not yet known. It is worth noting that the exercises will reportedly involve planning for the use of nuclear weapons.
The start of the "West-2025" exercises was announced by the Ministry of Defense press service. However, contrary to some reports, the exercises are not part of the series that includes "Interaction-2025", "Search-2025", and "Echelon-2025".
The joint Belarusian-Russian exercises are the latest in a series of military drills between the two nations. The location for these exercises remains Belarus. No other countries are reported to be involved in these joint exercises.
