Military command, Eastmincom, secures renewed certification from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
The Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) has been honoured with the AFP Transformation Roadmap Institutionalization Pathway (AFPTRIP) Second Recertified Status by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). The ceremony, held at Camp Aguinaldo on September 1, 2025, was attended by AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner Jr. and EastMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Luis Rex D. Bergante.
In 2025, Davao Region maintained an insurgency-free status, a feat attributed to the command's collaboration with local governments and agencies. The command has been recognised as a model for transparency, accountability, and strategic transformation.
Under Lt. Gen. Bergante's leadership, EastMinCom has made significant strides in counterinsurgency operations. Nearly 600 New People's Army (NPA) members were neutralised, and over 250 firearms were recovered. However, a few armed remnants of the NPA remain in Agusan del Sur, Bukidnon, Agusan del Norte, and Surigao del Norte. The goal is to dismantle these remnants within the year.
The recertification affirms EastMinCom's success in institutionalising reforms aligned with the AFP's goal of becoming a modern, service-oriented defence force. The AFP Chief of Staff highlighted EastMinCom's role in strengthening professionalism and credibility in the military.
Beyond counterinsurgency, EastMinCom has strengthened its role in humanitarian assistance and disaster response. The command has supported development projects in conflict-cleared areas, contributing to lasting peace and improved community welfare.
The award also recognises EastMinCom's contribution to lasting peace and improved community welfare. The command was initially awarded the First Certification of the AFP Transformation Roadmap Institutionalization Pathway in 2024 by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, with the ceremony attended by AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. and Eastern Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr.
This recertification is a testament to the transformative leadership of Lt. Gen. Bergante and the dedication of the EastMinCom team in maintaining peace and security in Mindanao. The command continues to strive for a peaceful and prosperous region, working closely with local governments and agencies to ensure sustainable development and improved community welfare.
