Military action in Gaza: Israel destroys a skyscraper during intensified offensive

In the heart of the Middle East, the ongoing conflict in Gaza continues to unfold, marked by a series of significant events over the past few months.

Last November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. This move by the ICC came in response to the military campaign in the Gaza Strip, which has been ongoing for 700 days.

The Israeli army has designated several areas in Gaza as "humanitarian corridors" and "humanitarian zones," including Al-Rashid Street and the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis. However, these designations have not prevented the loss of life, with at least 64,300 Palestinians reported dead and widespread devastation that has led to potential famine in the enclave.

The Israeli army's operations in Gaza have not spared civilian areas. Israeli warplanes have carried out strikes on the eastern areas of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, and a house in the Shati refugee camp, western Gaza City, was targeted, resulting in the death of five Palestinians and injuries to others.

The Israeli army has also been accused of bombing the Al-Mawasi area, despite labeling it a "safe zone," killing hundreds of civilians. The suburbs of the northern city have been under an Israeli offensive for weeks.

In a recent development, the Israeli army announced a new phase of Operation Gideon's Chariots 2 with the goal of occupying Gaza City entirely. This announcement followed Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz sharing a video of what appeared to be the collapsed tower, allegedly used by Hamas, in Gaza City. However, no evidence was provided to support this claim.

The Israeli army has advised Palestinians in Gaza City to evacuate towards the south before bombing the high-rise tower. The military campaign has resulted in further casualties, with Israeli forces killing at least five more Palestinians and injuring others in Gaza City on Saturday.

Moreover, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza. The conflict in Gaza continues to escalate, with the potential for displacement of around 1 million Palestinians, as per a plan approved by Israel's Security Cabinet on Aug. 8 to gradually reoccupy the Gaza Strip, starting with Gaza City.

As the situation in Gaza remains volatile, the international community continues to watch closely, hoping for a resolution that ensures peace and justice for all parties involved.
