Metro of Hyderabad Removes All Unauthorized Gaming App Logos

Authorities abolished advertisements for illicit betting applications in Hyderabad Metro stations, following a PIL challenging their presence.

Metro of Hyderabad Removes All Unauthorized Gaming App Logos

Take a peek at the current gaming app ads scene, and you'll notice they're generating a decent chunk of change for everyone involved. But, if you hop on the Hyderabad Metro recently, you won't spot any of those ads – at least not anymore. Now, why's that?

Just when you thought things were hunky-dory, Hyderabad Metro decided to ditch all gaming app hoardings on its trains and stations. So, what gives? Well, it all started following the court's intervention in the matter.

The interference stemmed from a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Telangana High Court. The PIL claimed that the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) was unwittingly pushing illegal betting platforms using these advertisements.

This development begs the question – will other Metros across India follow suit and ditch these gaming ads? For instance, Mumbai Metro allows ad placements and promos for such apps, much like Hyderabad did until the PIL popped up for hearing. But the ads have since been scrapped.

Waving Goodbye to Illegal Betting Apps?

These gambling app hoardings have drawn flak for quite a while now, not just in India but globally. Still, their presence on a public transport service was a slight surprise. But with the Telangana High Court curbing these advertisements, we're left wondering about the repercussions this decision might have in other regions.

India's stance on real-money gaming apps has been under close examination, with authorities now zeroing in on celebrities endorsing such platforms.

As for gaming apps, they've been facing rough waters even in countries like India. The government recently called for a retrospective Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 28%, which experts predict could spell the end for this emerging market [1].
