Meta anticipates modest sales figures for Project Hypernova, their upcoming smart glasses line
Meta's Project Hypernova Smart Glasses: A Closer Look
Meta's much-anticipated Project Hypernova smart glasses are set to launch next month, according to recent reports. Here's what we know so far about the upcoming device.
Leaked renders of the Hypernova glasses, which first surfaced on social media in July, suggest a thicker build compared to other devices. This design choice, however, may be a cause for concern for Meta, as it could potentially affect the glasses' market appeal.
The glasses are rumored to feature a display on their lens, similar to the Ray-Ban smart glasses. A key component of the Hypernova glasses is the sEMG bracelet, a new addition to the device that has been playtested. Using the glasses without the sEMG bracelet is compared to using a smartphone without a touch screen.
Meta is planning a September 2025 launch for the Hypernova glasses, with a price of around $800. This price point, which is a shift towards a mainstream market, comes after initial estimations of $1,000 or higher. The lower price may be a response to low consumer interest in high-priced devices such as Apple's $3,500 Vision Pro.
The Hypernova glasses are expected to sell between 150,000 to 200,000 units over a two-year period. Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst, predicts that the glasses will enter mass production in Q3 2025.
The AI integration in the Hypernova glasses is considered the selling point of the device. However, its application to an AR device is still in its infancy, which has caused some worry at Meta. The company is reportedly concerned about the integration of AI in the glasses, as it is still in its early stages.
Despite these concerns, the leaked renders of the Hypernova glasses may have increased interest in the project. The glasses may have a slightly heavier and thicker build compared to other devices, but this has not deterred potential buyers.
It remains to be seen whether Meta will treat the Hypernova glasses as a consumer-focused device or an experimental product. Regardless, the launch of the Hypernova glasses next month is an exciting development in the world of smart technology.
