Message from the President on the Observance of National Month for Alcohol and Substance Abuse Recovery

The U.S. Administration has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting healthy living, particularly in the fight against substance abuse, during National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. The Administration's efforts are spearheaded by the Make America Healthy Again Commission, which aims to provide every American with the chance to live long, healthy, happy, hopeful, and vigorous lives.

Recognising the widespread impact of substance abuse, the Administration is addressing this crisis head-on. Tens of millions of Americans are living with substance abuse disorders, a problem that affects every community and generation. To combat this issue, the Administration is expanding education to prevent drug use, particularly among children, and is widening access to treatment for addiction recovery.

In a bold move, the Administration is working to shut down the pipeline of fentanyl and other illicit drugs at U.S. borders. Simultaneously, they are dismantling drug cartels and lethal drug networks, inflicting the full force of American justice on drug traffickers.

The Administration's approach is not limited to law enforcement. They are focusing on making it easier for victims of substance abuse to fully recover. This includes strengthening the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program and the Drug-Free Communities Program, which empowers local leaders to confront substance abuse crises directly, efficiently, and effectively.

Recovery from addiction is achievable, according to the Administration. They are committed to providing the necessary resources, with $44 billion being invested into prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts. The Administration's resolve to build a future free from addiction is unwavering, as they renewed their commitment during National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.

In Germany, a different administration, the "Fahrerlaubnisbehörde" (driver's license authority), has intensified efforts to combat alcohol and drug addiction. They apply measures like license withdrawal and medical-psychological assessments under § 24a of the German Road Traffic Act (StVG). However, no similar initiatives have been announced in the U.S. context as of yet.

In conclusion, the U.S. Administration's comprehensive approach to substance abuse includes prevention, law enforcement, treatment, and recovery efforts. They remain steadfast in their commitment to supporting individuals struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, providing hope for a healthier, substance-free future for all Americans.
