Memorializing Brave Uncle Who Perished Saving Niece in Watery Grasp
In September 2023, a heart-wrenching incident took place at Sgwd y Pannwr falls in the Brecon Beacons, Wales. Mohananeethan "Mohan" Muruganantharajah, a 27-year-old man from Swansea, lost his life while trying to save his two young nieces from drowning.
The incident occurred during a family outing and holiday, with Mohan's relatives present. As the children found themselves in danger of drowning, Mohan bravely entered the water to help his family members facing difficulties. However, during the rescue attempt, he was pulled under the water and did not resurface.
The tragic event left Mohan's family in difficulty, as noted by the inquest. The two young nieces were safely rescued, but the heroic Mohan could not be saved. Rescue teams recovered his body the following day.
The coroner ruled Mohananeethan's death as an accident, and an inquest is currently underway to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Tributes poured in for Mohan, describing him as a devoted family member and a brother figure to everyone. His selfless act of bravery did not go unnoticed, with supporters of a fundraising campaign hailing him as a hero. The campaign, established in Mohan's honour, has raised nearly £3,000.
Family members remembered Mohan as a kind and caring individual, always ready to lend a helping hand. His loss has left a profound impact on those who knew him, and his memory will live on in their hearts.
