Medical Professionals from Saveetha Medical College Offer Crucial Health Services in the Divided Region of Manipur
Saveetha Medical College Team's Humanitarian Mission in Manipur
A team of 21 medical professionals from Saveetha Medical College recently undertook a three-day humanitarian mission in Manipur. This team provided critical medical care and psychological support to over 1,800 internally displaced persons.
The team, which included pediatricians, general physicians, gynecologists, orthopedic surgeons, and mental health specialists, addressed the dire health conditions of the displaced persons. They treated cases of malnutrition, respiratory infections, gastrointestinal disorders, and menstrual health infections due to lack of sanitary products.
Orthopedic surgeons cared for patients with untreated fractures and joint injuries, while pediatricians attended to undernourished children suffering from vitamin deficiencies and infections. Mental health specialists provided grief counseling and psychological support for individuals experiencing PTSD and anxiety due to the conflict.
The Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, in recognition of the team's efforts, emphasized the critical impact of the medical intervention provided by the team. He personally expressed his gratitude to the team and commended Saveetha Medical College's contribution.
The Manipur Health Directorate also acknowledged the team's efforts and commended Saveetha Medical College's contribution with an official letter of recognition. Each team member was presented with a certificate of appreciation for their dedication to humanitarian service.
Dr. N.M. Veeraiyan, Chancellor of Saveetha Medical College, stated the institution's readiness to serve fellow Indians in times of crisis.
