In a significant move for the medical technology industry, the Medtech Association published a blog post on July 10, 2025, highlighting the importance of advocacy on Capitol Hill and the advancement of patient care.

The blog post comes at a time when the spotlight is on medtech companies, with Cardiawave SA, a specialist in valvular heart disease, presenting positive 12-month results from its "Valvosoft® FIM Study" and "Valvosoft® Pivotal Study" for the treatment of Severe Symptomatic Aortic Stenosis (sSAS) at the EuroPCR Congress.

The Medtech Association also commended the House of Representatives' bipartisan Task Force on Artificial Intelligence for recommending that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) develop a formalized payment pathway for AI-enabled medical devices. This call to action is a step towards integrating advanced technology into healthcare services.

In a related development, the Medtech Association has published a technical performance and safety white paper titled "Medical Imaging Device Cybersecurity: Critical Outage Situations and Response." The white paper details best-practice response plans to restore stability, verify integrity, and mitigate against device failures or compromised systems. It also emphasises the importance of coordination with device manufacturers in critical outage situations, recommending steps such as isolation of the device, restoring backups, and implementing network segmentation.

The white paper further explains that deprecated imaging devices face a higher risk of unresolved infections, underscoring the need for regular updates and maintenance in the medical technology sector.

The Medtech Association has also welcomed the White House's "America's AI Action Plan," showing its support for the government's initiatives in artificial intelligence. Additionally, the Association has celebrated major milestones in 2024 for its Medical Imaging Divisions and laid the groundwork for 2025.

Looking ahead, the Medtech Association has welcomed the kickoff of the latest Medical Device User Fee Amendments (MDUFA) discussion at a public meeting at FDA headquarters. The Association encourages the agency to build on the successes of the prior five such agreements to ensure the next agreement, MDUFA VI, delivers strong results for the American public.
