Massive Powerball jackpot swells to a staggering $850 million following no victors in Monday night's game

The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an impressive $850 million, making it the 10th-largest in Powerball history and joining a list of record-breaking prizes. This astronomical sum was announced by the California Lottery, as reported by Carolyn Becker, on August 27 at 10:59 a.m. ET.

The next drawing will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 10:59 p.m. ET, offering players the chance to win this life-changing sum. Tickets can be purchased in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The current jackpot has not been won for 38 consecutive drawings since May 31. In the most recent drawing on Monday night, two tickets, one sold in Georgia and one in Texas, matched all five white balls to win $1 million each. However, no one managed to match the elusive Powerball number, denying a jackpot win.

The Power Play for Monday's drawing was 3, meaning that secondary prizes were tripled, offering an extra incentive to those who didn't quite hit the jackpot.

The winning numbers for Monday's Powerball drawing were: 16, 19, 34, 37, 64 and the Powerball is 22.

Interestingly, only nine other Powerball jackpots have exceeded the current estimated prize in the game's history. The largest Powerball prize to date was a staggering $2.04 billion, won in California in November 2022. Another notable win was a $1.765 billion prize claimed in California last October, and a $1.326 billion prize won in Oregon earlier this year in April.

A $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot was split between winners in California, Florida, and Tennessee in January 2016.

For those opting for the cash payout, the current jackpot translates to $383.7 million.
