Mass of 78,000 spectators captivated by Korean showcase within a royal palace
The exhibition "100 Ideas of Happiness. Art Treasures from Korea" at Dresden's Residenzschloss is drawing to a close this coming weekend. Since its inception at the end of July, over 78,000 visitors have been captivated by the diverse and captivating display of Korean art.
The exhibition, a collaboration between the Korean National Museum and the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, showcases approximately 180 outstanding exhibits, including valuable grave goods, jewelry, royal garments, and porcelain from various periods of Korean history.
Marius Winzeler, Director of the Green Vault and the Armory, expresses his delight at the dialogue created between Korean court art and the baroque art of Dresden's Residenzschloss. Among his favourite exhibits is the enthroned Buddha opposite the audience chair of Augustus the Strong.
The exhibition explores different perceptions of happiness in Korean art, with a diverse framework program this weekend. Highlights include a guided tour through the exhibition on Saturday, August 9, at 2 pm, and a Korean workshop for designing talismans on the same day from 10 am.
A family afternoon in the Residenzschloss is invited on Saturday, August 9, starting from 3 pm. On Sunday, August 10, a guided tour in Korean will take place at 1 pm, followed by the participatory art action "The Whole World is One Flower" at 3 and 4 pm.
The academic symposium with international experts focused on questions of Korean art history and cultural philosophy, underscoring the lasting significance of cultural exchange between Germany and Korea. Winzeler considers the magnificent gold jewelry in the New Green Vault a must-see highlight and notes that it will not be shown outside Korea for some time.
More information about the exhibition can be found at the Green Vault Museum. The exhibition runs until August 10, 2025. Don't miss this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Korean art history and the timeless pursuit of happiness.
