Marvel Rivals: Season 4 and PlayStation 4 Release Announced

Marvel Rivals, the popular hero shooter game developed by NetEase Games, is set to expand its reach with the upcoming release on PlayStation 4 and the commencement of Season 4 on September 12, 2025.

Guangguang, the creative director of Marvel Rivals, has confirmed that the team based in Guangzhou is permitted to create original characters for the game beyond the existing Marvel heroes and villains. One of the new characters joining the roster is Angela, a Vanguard, who is the first since Emma Frost in Season 2. She commands the Ichors, allowing her to form different weapons and take to the skies. Angela also has a team-up with her brother, Thor, granting him the ability to throw a spear and then leap to that point, dealing damage.

The other new character being added in Season 4 is Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil.

In terms of character balance changes, Loki and Luna Snow are set to receive slight nerfs, while Sue Storm and Doctor Strange are getting buffs. Thor is also getting a buff this season, with improvements coming to his Ultimate ability.

However, the PlayStation 4 version of Marvel Rivals may experience some drawbacks due to its hardware limitations compared to newer systems. This includes increased match loading times and potential performance issues. Additionally, the lightning-quick match search times that players have come to enjoy on other platforms may not be present in the PlayStation 4 version.

On a positive note, the developers have confirmed that they are working on placement matches, a significant improvement for Ranked play. They have also announced a new swimsuit skin lineup coming on Sept. 18, 2025, for Mantis, Sue Storm, and others.

It's worth noting that many other game developers have stopped supporting last-generation systems like PlayStation 4, with Genshin Impact, PUBG, and some annual sports franchises being among them. However, Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is still launching on last-generation systems.

Unfortunately, the placement matches will not be ready for Season 4. Nonetheless, fans of Marvel Rivals on PlayStation 4 can look forward to the exciting new characters, balance changes, and the start of Season 4 on September 12, 2025.
