Market debut sees accusation of attempted handbag theft leading to detainment
In the heart of Cologne, a purse-snatching incident unfolded in broad daylight at Neumarkt on August 14. At around 3 pm, a 26-year-old man attempted to steal a handbag from two women who were cycling through the city center.
The suspect, who has no fixed address in Germany, approached the women and attempted to snatch their handbag. However, due to the women's quick reaction and resistance, the suspect did not succeed in stealing the handbag. The suspect then fled towards Neumarkt without the stolen handbag.
Witnesses, including the two women who were targeted, are asked to contact the investigators of the Criminal Commissioner 14. Despite efforts to identify the women, their personal details could not be recorded as they had left the scene before their identities could be established.
The investigation into the origin of the stolen items is ongoing. A search conducted during the arrest of the suspect revealed jewelry believed to have been stolen in other thefts. This incident serves as a reminder for people to be vigilant and take precautions to protect their personal belongings in public places.
The suspect was later recognized near the scene and taken into custody by plainclothes officers who heard screams and observed a struggle. The Criminal Police urge the two unidentified women directly involved to come forward as witnesses.
