Market debut incident: apprehension for attempted purse snatching
In a recent incident on Thursday afternoon, a 26-year-old man was arrested in Neumarkt, Cologne, following an attempted bag snatching.
The suspect approached two women on a bicycle near Fleischmengergasse around 3 pm, attempting to snatch one of their handbags from behind. The women resisted, causing the man to flee towards Neumarkt without the bag.
Plainclothes officers, who were in the area, recognised the suspect and took him into custody. A search during the arrest revealed jewelry believed to have been stolen from other crimes.
Investigations into the origin of these items are ongoing, and the Criminal Police in Cologne are urging the two women who were directly involved in the incident to come forward as witnesses. They can contact the Criminal Investigation Department 14 (Kriminalkommissariat 14) at the phone number 0221 229-0 or via email at [email protected].
Witnesses, including the two women involved, can also email the investigators at the same address. However, it has been reported that the two women have not yet come forward.
The detainee has no fixed address in Germany and will be brought before a judge later today. The jewelry found on the detainee is believed to have been stolen from other crimes. The police urge anyone with information about this case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigations.
