Marine Technology Company Advocates for Environmental Friendliness in Shipping Industry

The Green Offshore Tech consortium, a European initiative aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the maritime industry, has announced the second call for applications. This call is open to SMEs from across Germany, unlike the first call which was limited to certain regions.

The project, part of the EU's Green Deal implementation, is focused on driving innovations in the areas of green maritime shipping and renewable maritime energy infrastructure. The deadline for applications is fast approaching, set for March 24, 2023.

Oliver Bretag, project manager for Green Offshore Tech at the Maritime Cluster North Germany, is encouraging SMEs to apply. He emphasizes that this is a unique opportunity for companies to receive funding of up to 60,000 euros and a range of services.

SMEs can submit their ideas and concepts for green maritime innovations until the deadline. They can apply for project outlines or existing projects via the Green Offshore Tech website, greenoffshoretech.com.

The consortium includes clusters from 15 regions and seven countries across Europe. Notable participants include HyGear (Switzerland) delivering solid oxide electrolyzers for hydrogen research at EPFL, Axpo (Switzerland) promoting green hydrogen and renewable energy networks in Europe, and UKA Italia (Italy) developing renewable energy projects such as Agri-PV in Sicily.

Vestas (Denmark) and Eurogrid (Belgium) are also key players in offshore wind and renewable energy integration relevant to Green Offshore Tech. The project involves countries such as Germany, Norway, Portugal, Latvia, Poland, Iceland, and the United Kingdom.

The North German maritime economy aims to become more sustainable, and the Green Offshore Tech project is a significant step towards this goal. The Technical University of Hamburg now has a real-world lab, providing a test field for future technologies in the maritime environment.

The German Renewables Award has previously honoured the bright minds of the energy transition, and the Green Offshore Tech project continues this tradition.
