Manish Mundra's Wild Africa captures the untamed beauty of Kenya and Tanzania

A new coffee table book by Manish Mundra showcases the wild heart of East Africa. Wild Africa: Through My Lens brings together years of photography from Kenya and Tanzania's legendary savannahs. The 170-page collection distils over 28,000 images into a visual journey across the Maasai Mara and Serengeti. The book centres on two of Africa's most famous wildlife reserves. The Maasai Mara National Reserve stretches over 1,510 square kilometres, its grasslands rising from 1,480 to 2,280 metres above sea level. Nearby, the Serengeti National Park covers nearly 14,800 square kilometres, its vast plains dotted with acacia trees and sweeping from 920 to 1,850 metres in elevation.

These landscapes support some of the planet's greatest concentrations of wildlife. The Serengeti alone is home to an estimated 1.5 million wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles. Each year, the Great Wildebeest Migration sees herds cross crocodile-filled rivers as they follow the rains. The Maasai Mara, meanwhile, hosts over 95 mammal species and more than 450 types of birds.

Predators also thrive here. Lions, leopards, and cheetahs roam freely, making the region one of the best places to observe big cats in their natural habitat. Together, the Maasai Mara and Serengeti form one of the world's most iconic wilderness ecosystems. Mundra's work arrives as global reports highlight pressures on migratory species. A 2026 UN study notes that nearly half of such populations are in decline, with habitat loss posing risks to routes like those in the Serengeti. The book's images offer a vivid record of a landscape that remains vital for wildlifeโ€”yet faces growing challenges.
