The Ministry of Education of Russia has announced significant changes to the school curriculum, effective from the 2026/2027 academic year. The updates, reported by RIA Novosti, will see a revised list of mandatory subjects for obtaining a basic general education.

One of the most notable additions to the curriculum is a new subject - "Spiritual and Moral Culture of Russia". The identity of the teacher who will introduce this subject remains undisclosed.

In addition to the existing subjects like Russian Language, Literature, Foreign Language, History, Social Studies, Geography, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Visual Arts, Music, Laboratory Work (Technology), and Physical Education, the revised curriculum includes several new subjects.

These include "Visual Arts", "Music", "Laboratory Work (Technology)", and "Fundamentals of Safety and Defense of the Motherland". The Mathematics course will now encompass Algebra, Geometry, and Probability and Statistics.

A significant shift in the curriculum is the optionality of the subjects "Native Language", "Native Literature", and "Second Foreign Language". Parents will now have the discretion to decide whether their children study these subjects.

The History subject will be expanded to cover courses on "History of Russia", "World History", and "Regional History".

These changes in the school curriculum mark a new era in Russian education, aiming to provide a more comprehensive and flexible learning experience for students.
