In a tragic turn of events, a 23-year-old van driver has been placed under house arrest following an incident on Tuesday, August 5, in the frazione of Piedilago, Premia. The victim of the accident was Deborah Rolando, a 48-year-old cyclist from Crevoladossola, who was descending from the Formazza valley with a friend.

According to the initial investigation by the Carabinieri of the Premia station and their colleagues from the Domodossola NOR, the van, while overtaking three cars, failed to stop in time and struck Deborah Rolando, causing minor injuries to her friend. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, Deborah did not survive the incident.

The GIP of Verbania Court ordered house arrest as a precautionary measure for the driver, following a two-week investigation by the Carabinieri of the Domodossola Company. The investigation included evidence collection, driver's condition checks, and witness statements. An alcohol test conducted on the driver was negative.

The Carabinieri of the Premia station executed the house arrest measure, with the driver now confined to his home. The incident has left the local community in shock, with tributes pouring in for Deborah Rolando.

Our thoughts are with Deborah's family and friends during this difficult time. We will continue to follow this story as more information becomes available.
