Manchester United defender in negotiations for departure, prompted by League Cup debacle: media claims

Manchester United find themselves in a significant transfer period, with the Red Devils considering a potential sale of defender Tyrell Malacia.

The Dutch left-back, who joined Manchester United last season, has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with Spanish side Elche reportedly opening talks over a possible transfer. According to Transfermarkt, Malacia is valued at €8 million.

Malacia's potential departure comes as United manager Ruben Amorim looks to strengthen his squad. With the need for urgent surgery before the transfer window closes, Amorim may have to offload players to make room for new signings.

Two stars that United are considering selling for profit are Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. Malacia's exit could free up a spot in the squad, providing an opportunity for other players to step up.

Last season, Malacia made just eight appearances for the Red Devils due to injuries. Patrick Dorgu joined Manchester United as another option at left wing-back last season.

Lille and Roma are also reportedly interested in signing Malacia, adding to the competition for his signature. The Red Devils were eliminatied from the League Cup by Grimsby Town in a shocking result, which could potentially speed up Malacia's exit.

Recently, Manchester United have splurged around £200 million on attackers Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko this summer. The club's focus on reinforcing the attack may indicate a willingness to let go of Malacia, who has played under 50 times in his three seasons with Manchester United.

The potential sale of Malacia could still occur before the financial year ends next summer, providing an opportunity for the Red Devils to reinvest in their squad. This transfer saga is set to continue as Manchester United prepare an exit for the defender.
