Manchester City transfers their top young Euro 2021 goalscorer to Wolfsburg
Lucas Nmecha Joins Wolfsburg for €8 Million
After a successful stint at Anderlecht in Belgium, where he scored an impressive 21 goals in 41 games last season, Lucas Nmecha has completed his move to VfL Wolfsburg. The deal is worth €8 million, with the German club securing the services of the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship top scorer and winner.
Nmecha, who was in Manchester City's academy from 2007, has now left the English club to join his new team. The transfer comes as Manchester City currently have only one central striker, Gabriel Jesus, and with Sergio Aguero having been released as a free agent.
Despite making only three appearances for Manchester City's first team, Nmecha's association with the club has given him a unique advantage. His national team eligibility is not solely based on his birthplace but also includes Germany, England, and his father's homeland, Nigeria.
Manchester City will receive a percentage of any future transfer fee for Nmecha, and the club has retained a priority buy-back option for the striker. The contract duration for Nmecha at Wolfsburg is until 30 June 2025.
Notably, Christian Eriksen has also joined Wolfsburg, signing a contract until 2027 and currently the highest-paid new signing at the German club. With the addition of Nmecha and Eriksen, Wolfsburg is poised for an exciting new chapter.
Nmecha's eligibility for international play is connected to his family origins, and he is eligible to represent three national teams: Nigeria, Germany, and England. This versatility in national team selection adds another layer of intrigue to his career trajectory.
As Nmecha embarks on this new journey with Wolfsburg, fans and football enthusiasts alike are eager to see what the future holds for this promising young talent.
